3:1 They say, if a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man’s, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but you have played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to Me, says the LORD.
3:2 Lift up your eyes unto the high places and see where you have not been lien with. In the ways have you sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and you have polluted the land with your whoredoms and with your wickedness.
3:3 Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there has been no latter rain; and you had a whore’s forehead, you refused to be ashamed.
3:4 Will you not from this time cry unto me, my Father, you are the guide of my youth?
3:5 Will He reserve his anger forever? will He keep it to the end? Behold, you have spoken and done evil things as you could. (Jeremiah 3:1-5 KJV)
I have written many blogs saying the books of the Bible contain metaphors. In the book of Jeremiah there are many. I have also said situations repeat many, many times and Jeremiah is no different. What Jeremiah talked about is exactly what is happening today. However, who is Jeremiah?
Jeremiah was a prophet who warned Judah of God’s coming judgment through the Babylonians. He spoke to Kings and to common people with forceful power and then went home to weep over their hardness of heart.
Jeremiah was the undertaker of the Old Testament, the hospice worker in whose care the nation of Judah spent its dying days. Jeremiah’s book is not one to which you can turn for a positive, uplifting message.
We think his message is depressing when God intends it as demanding. We think it’s about long ago and far away, when in fact God wants to use this book to challenge us to think carefully and seriously about our own lives and our own nation.
The message I get from the above passage (metaphorically) is you shun a woman for messing around, you do the same thing but do not expect the same punishment. Why should God punish the woman for bad decisions but look favorably upon you as you do wrong?
Look at all the bad things that you have done (political party, person, etc.), proven it has been, yet you are not ashamed for having done them. Then, having been caught, run to the Father crying for help. Not forgiveness, but for help to continue doing whatever you are doing.
Don’t expect God not to be angry. Look around you, as I have been saying many times, and see what is happening. The world is changing and is breathing its last breath. God erased mankind once and will do it again because of our disobedience.
Those that have done wrong things, are doing wrong things, and those that are upholding or closing their eyes to the wrongs things or persons doing these things will meet the judgment. Judgment is coming and it will not be pretty, and the Lord will not have mercy for those not entuned with Him. Repent before it’s too late. Read Jeremiah, not just the words but for understanding. He is talking about today and what is coming. Repent and move away from the wrongdoers.
