Mark

8:35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 8:37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words (o. logos) in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels. (Mark 8:35-38 KJV)

Mark was a young person when Jesus died. After Jesus’ resurrection, Mark became one of the apostles on Peter’s team. His Gospel records Peter’s eyewitness stories of Jesus’s life and ministry. Mark is the shortest of the Gospels. It focuses on Jesus’ actions, rather than on his teachings, in order to demonstrate his authority, which appealed to the pragmatic Roman.

Mark should appeal to the people today because people today do not seem to listen to promises, they want action. There are many that do not respond positively to known actions but rather listen to conspiracy theories and lies. The more lies they are told without a drop of proof, the more they believe.

Jesus wanted to save lives, not in this world, in the Godly Kingdom. As verse thirty-six states, why do you want to gain the world by losing your soul? Defy God by breaking His Commandments and lose your soul to the Devil. Satan have a strangle hold on far too many people and he wants more. Everyday people are told this and they don’t seem to care. Like Satan, they are greedy, but, unlike Satan, they want material things, as if they can take it with them. Satan want your soul and that is forever, into infinity.

In verse thirty-eight Mark speaks about the adulterous and sinful generation of Romans. Take out the word Romans and replace it with the twenty-first century people.

People in our culture don’t have much religious or Biblical background. We have to start with the basic facts, not intricate theology or church ritual, but a clear, straightforward presentation of Jesus. Men and women today want to know if Jesus can still calm life’s storms, if He can still restore relationships, if He can still give purpose to life in an aimless, meaningless, hectic world. The Jesus we encounter in Mark’s Gospel can do all that and more.

It all breaks down to this. Not only will today’s politicians burn in hell, losing their souls for so-called power and the worship of the cult leader, but so will the populace that condone this behavior. They will vote for their cult leader and all his enablers and burn in hell with them after being scammed (why are you giving money to a millionaire? What are you really getting? Have you seen it yet?).

Remember, believe in Jesus as Redeemer and follow Jesus as Lord. Anything else puts you on a path away from God’s Kingdom, not toward it.
