20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word (o. logos) of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection: on such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with him a thousand years. (Revelation 20:1-6 KJV)
In a few blogs I have said to read the Bible. Read it for understanding, not just a verse or two. Revelation (most people say Revelations) is about the future as it was shown to John. The above verses of chapter twenty say the Devil (Satan) will be chained for a thousand years then turn loose.
As a person read the entire chapter it says that the dead will be resurrected and those with the mark of the beast on the head or hand will be cast into the fires of hell. Those without the mark will be judged from the book of life and those that do not meet the standards will also be casted into the fires of hell for eternity.
When the second resurrection happens, those that went through the first resurrection and survived cannot be judged or ruled by those going through the second resurrection. They will, instead, shall be priests of God and of Christ and shall reign with Him a thousand years.
Therefore, I say to read the Bible, not just a passage or two. Read for understanding and the chapter will become clear. Maybe what you thought the verse was referring to is a wrong thought, you took the verse out of context. The word Bible mean ‘book’. Read it like a book and the stories and all that is involved will be clearer and an enjoyment to read. With all the metaphors in Revelation, it really is not hard to understand, just read it slowly.
Revelation is only predicting the destruction of the world. It also shows what will happen to those that is named in the book of life. It also shows what will happen to the devil, those with the mark, and those that are not named in the book of life. I pray that God have mercy on my soul.
