2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God has made the same Jesus, whom all of you have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, men and brethren, what shall we do?
2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and all of you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (o. pneuma)
2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are far off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.
2:40 And with many other words (o. logos) did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. (Acts 2:36-40 KJV)
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances.” (Shakespear) The book of Acts is a transition book. What I mean by that is the transition from the Old Testament to the New Testament. Analizing Acts it first opens with every follower of Jesus was a Jew. When Acts ends, dozens of communities were filled with Jews and Gentiles all over the Roman Empire.
After he was crucified, Christ descended from Heaven and spoke with the disciples. He told them to spread the gospel to the known world.
Above, Peter is speaking to the people in the first part of Acts, the Jews. After he berated them they asked what they should do. He told them to repent and be baptized. To prove the point about being baptized just remember John baptized Jesus. Jesus did not sin but all of us have. Therefore, we must first repent and, going further, be baptized and sin no more.
Peter also told them to save themselves from the untoward (perverse) generation. This bad trait has been ongoing since time began. From generation to generation and it’s still on going. Do not only look at us but look at our leaders also.
There is another thing to say about repenting. Anyone can say they have repented and be baptized but it does not mean anything if a person really does not mean it. A person must mean it in their heart and soul and willingly follow Jesus. Saying you repent and not really mean it ensures a place in hell.
Saying you repent does not mean it makes you a part of the untoward generation. Time is not your friend because you may drop dead without notice. Remember the man that was to sell his processions and give the proceeds to the church? He only gave part of the proceeds and lied by saying he gave all. When confronted with his lie he immediately dropped dead. His wife, not knowing he was dead, backed him up and she also dropped dead.
God our Father knows all, sees all, and does not condone sinners. There is a place in hell for those that do not repent, be baptized, and mean it in their heart and soul. Jesus rose from the dead so that we may repent our sins, be baptized, sin no more, and have everlasting life.
55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:7 KJV)
